The woman of the thousand voices
The woman of the thousand souls
whose bones are all hollow
and her thousand souls run about and cry out
Our Children, Our Children.
They scattered the salt in her heart to preserve the pain
They scattered the salt to blind her eyes and render her tears many and salty
They covered her with blankets of salt to burn the wounds and silence her voice swallowed therein.

Walking on the water
she will be able to pull out her drowning children.

שכל עצמותיה ריקות
ואלפי נשמותיה מתרוצצות וצועקות
ילדינו שלנו, ילדינו שלנו
פיזרו את המלח בלבה לשמר את הכאב
פיזרו את המלח לעוור את עיניה שיהיו דמעותיה רבות ומלוחות
כיסו אותה בשמיכות של מלח לשרוף את הפצעים ולהשתיק את קולה שייבלע בם.

כשתהלך על המים
תוכל למשות את ילדיה הטובעים.

سيّدة الألف صَوتٍ
سَيّدة الألف رُوحٍ
سَيّدة مُحيط الدّموع
خاويةُ العظام
وآلافُ أرواحها تتراكضُ وتصرخُ
أبناءَنا، أبناءَنا!
أُنثروا الملحَ في قلبها كي يحفظ الألم
أنثروا الملحَ لتُكَفَّ عيناها فيكثُر دمعُها ويصير أُجاجاً
دثّروها بمشاملَ من ملحٍ لتُحرَقَ الجروح ويسكتَ صوتُها الّذي سيغيبُ فيهم.

حين تسيرُ على الماء
ستقوى على انتشالَ أبنائها الغارقين.

Longing for our missing children
Our tears would pave the path of their return
They would tread on burning salty tears.
With tied golden threads we would mark their way
Envelop them with bandages of light

מתגעגעים לילדינו שאינם

نشتاقُ لأبنائنا الغائبينَ
قد نمهّدُ طريقَ عودتهم بدموعنا
كانوا يَخطُون على دموع الملح الحارقة.
بخيوط الذّهب التي سنعقدُها، سنحدّدُ الطّريقَ
نلفُّها بمناشف نور
ليكونوا لنا أبدَ الدّهر.

to touch the earth and long for the light
to tie her children to her angels of light with lullabies
so they will not be carried out,
and dress them in garments of earth.

לנוע בין האדמה לאור
לגעת באדמה ולהתגעגע לאור
לקשור בשירי ערש את ילדיה
למלאכי האור שלה
שלא יחטפו וילבישום מלבושי עפר.

أن تتحرّكَ بين الأرض والنّور

أن تتحرّكَ بين الأرض والنّور
أن تلمسَ الأرضَ وتشتاقَ إلى النّور
أن تربطَ أبناءَها بترنيمات
لملائكَة نُورها
لئلاّ يَخطفوهم ويُلحفوهم التّراب.
